About Sonder

My
Story
Thank you for taking the time to come and find out more about Sonder Yoga. Founded in June 2026, Sonder Yoga was born from a long time dream of becoming a Yoga Teacher.
I started practising Yoga when I was 13 years old, I don't know why I was drawn to it, but as soon as I started I was hooked. I found after a class, I was calmer, less anxious. I felt more flexible, stronger, more resilient. And this is the the secret to Yoga....it doesn't make life easier, it makes it easier to cope with.
The breathing, the mindfulness, the physical aspect, the bringing awareness inward, these are all the building blocks to help live life in a way that is fulfilling, kind and compassionately.
The meaning of Sonder
The realisation that each person you pass has a life as vivid and complex as your own.
Coined by writer John Koenig in his Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, sonder is a word invented for a feeling that has always existed, that quiet, expansive moment when you truly recognise the full humanity of the people around you.
It is, I think, exactly what yoga has always been trying to teach us.
Through the ethical foundations of the eight limbs, compassion, truthfulness, non-harm, yoga is a practice that invites us to turn inward and, in doing so, to see each other more clearly. The deeper the practice, the more connected we become. To ourselves. To our bodies. To the people sharing the mat beside us.
That is the heart of Sonder Yoga. A space to come back to yourself, and to remember you were never alone in the experience.
Qualifications & Insurance
Trust matters, especially when you're trying something new or coming back to your mat after time away. So here's the practical bit.
I trained with My Tribe Yoga, a Yoga Alliance–accredited school, where my 200 hours covered anatomy, safe alignment, sequencing, yoga philosophy and the craft of teaching. It gave me a solid grounding, and I keep learning and growing as a teacher.
Every Sonder class, whether it's in a studio, at a private home, or outdoors, is covered by public liability insurance. That means you can focus on your practice and leave the paperwork to me.
Sonder Yoga is fully insured through Insure4Sport (underwritten by Aviva), with £10m public liability and £5m professional indemnity cover. A copy of our certificate is available on request.
If you have any questions about my training, or you'd like to talk through an injury or anything else before your first class, just drop me a line at hello@sonderyoga.co.uk.

Our Logo

I wanted a logo that felt personal, something that reflected who I am and what I want Sonder Yoga to be.
The lotus in Yoga symbolises spiritual growth, purity, and rebirth. It roots itself in muddy water, yet rises through the surface to bloom beautifully untouched. It felt like the right symbol for a practice that's about rising above whatever life brings, rather than pretending that the mud isn't there.
At the centre, a mountain rises from the lotus, a nod to the fells of the Lake District, the landscape I'm lucky enough to call home, and the place that shapes so much of how I teach and practice. Nothing humbles you more than climbing a mountain and seeing the beauty of the world below.
Either side, two curved marks hold the lotus in a gentle embrace, welcoming, enclosing, bringing together. They echo the meaning behind Sonder itself: the quiet recognition that everyone around us is living a life as rich and complicated as our own, and that we're all, in some way, held within the same space.
